Here to see Robin Cousins’ ICE at the Bristol Hippodrome.
After seeing the pre show booked this when the tickets became available.
It will be interesting to see the finished production
The former Olympic champion has selected some of the best skaters in the world and choreographed a series of performance numbers that show off the very best of their talents.
Rather than feeling like a cut back version of a show meant for a larger arena, Cousins has done a fantastic job of designing each number specifically to suit the intimate theatre setting.
As the show opens, the sheer beauty of the dancing is enough to produce a childlike wonder at the seemingly effortless movements that send the performers gliding across the stage, travelling at great speed and yet appearing motionless as they hold their stance.
From there, each number just builds and builds, with more daring and dangerous tricks, as well as increasingly levels of showmanship - there are touches of magic and acrobatics, drama, ballroom dance and even an impressive musical act in which Michael Solonoski combines surprisingly good vocals with some tricky skating moves.
